1993

Zeynel Demir and Abdulkadir Celebi, former colleagues, seize the opportunity to acquire a small neighborhood store in Winterthur specializing in Turkish groceries, where they previously worked as butchers. Although the store initially struggles to generate profit, they notice a significant demand for kebab skewers. This observation isn't surprising, given the subpar quality of homemade kebabs often found at local stands, which lack flavor and structural integrity. This realization leaves a lasting impression on Zeynel Demir.

1994

The two new business owners quickly lead the store to unprecedented success under the new company name CEDE (an abbreviation of Celebi and Demir).

1995

The business flourishes, especially the sales of kebab skewers. The kebab production is outsourced to a butcher shop and expanded on a larger scale. Consequently, the company CEDE is transformed into CEDE GmbH.

1996

The CEDE neighborhood store transitions to employee ownership. Cebeli and Demir shift their focus to industrial kebab skewer production, aiming to supply kebab stand operators nationwide. To facilitate this, they establish CEDE ROYAL DÖNER GmbH at the old slaughterhouse in Winterthur. This marks the beginning of their vision for large-scale kebab production to serve kebab stands across the country, with an initial team of six handling administration, manufacturing, and distribution.

1999

Despite rapid business growth, the paths of the two partners, Cebeli and Demir, diverge. The changing circumstances prompt Zeynel Demir to convert the company's legal structure and rename it to ROYAL DÖNER AG, relocating to the former Migros wholesale butcher's building. From here, the company gradually evolves into the largest producer and distributor of kebab skewers in Switzerland.

2016

The ROYAL DÖNER AG has solidified its position as the largest producer and distributor of kebab skewers in Switzerland. The Winterthur-based company, employing 130 staff and supplying over 800 kebab stands and restaurants nationwide, is poised for another move in 2017 to accommodate its growing production needs.

2017

The ROYAL DÖNER AG has moved into its state-of-the-art production facility at Holzwingertstrasse 44 in Winterthur. Our newly constructed facility boasts a fully automated high-bay warehouse, ergonomically designed workstations, and streamlined production processes. This enables us to prepare our products more efficiently, enhance customer service, and promote sustainable production practices. Additionally, our new training center for customers and franchisees sets a benchmark for excellence in quality.

2018

In 2018, ROYAL DÖNER AG celebrates its 25th anniversary with a series of events and initiatives. The company is commended for its ongoing commitment to quality and innovation in the food industry.

Zeynel Demir is recognized as a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist, receiving an award for his lifetime achievement. The company's focus remains on expanding its operations and reinforcing its position as a leader in the kebab industry.

2019

In 2019, ROYAL DÖNER AG ramps up its digitalization efforts to enhance operational efficiency. Expanding online ordering and delivery services align with shifting consumer demands.

2020

The COVID-19 pandemic poses significant challenges for ROYAL DÖNER AG, but the company successfully rises to the occasion. Implementing flexible work arrangements and stringent hygiene measures, it adeptly sustains production and secures its supply chain.
